I am using "Wussification" instead of a more popular term for the same thing...but you get the idea. I don't want to give away too much info on this because it will be the topic of my first Podcast.
So what happened? 2 Generations ago our Grandfathers seemed a little more Manly than the majority of Men do now. Here is what happened. Our kids got soft. They found technology and parents stopped making them work...listen...and follow through with the Hard stuff. ...because it was just easier for the parent to continue doing the things they were doing and let technology raise and entertain our children.
We Become what we DO! If we sit on our butts and play video games and eat processed foods we become experts at sitting and fattening up. If we PLAY HARD...TRAIN HARD and EAT CLEAN we become well oiled machines ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead of us. Thats all Fitness is....The fitter you are...the greater challenges you can overcome....this includes Mental, Physical and Emotional Fitness.
So parents--it is your job to lead your children through examples of this type of living. Follow through with them...make them do things they DONT WANT TO DO!...but WILL BENEFIT THEM! Its not your job to be your child's buddy...its your job to RAISE THEM to handle the RIGORS of LIFE!
So next time you tell your kid to take a shower, read a book, lift some weights or eat the food you made for them and they respond negatively...do what my Mom used to do....TAKE EVERYTHING AWAY....I remember giving her some crap about bringing in fire wood...wanting to put it off until later. When I got home not only was my CAR gone....but the only thing in my bedroom was a twin mattress, blanket and pillow. Now this may seem extreme...but it toughened me up and I never disrespected my Mothers requests again.
So remember...Let your children do things that toughen them up. I don't think I can handle seeing kids run the show anymore....and if you don't have the wherewithal to accomplish this...bring them to Evolve....we will definitely get them turned around.
So many "trainers" out there believe in working 90% of the time to make an athlete 10% better! At Evolve we are constantly striving to use valuable time to improve all aspects of athleticism for our Youth, High School and Professional Athletes. Spending time doing ladder drills and jumping up on boxes and standing on vibrating platforms all have their place. But here is the bottom line.
The key to improving your speed, agility, explosive power and athletic performance has it's roots in one thing! "The development of high level Strength while maintaining athleticism. If you want to run faster we do not suggest Running a lot....your time is better spent developing the muscles such as the glutes, hamstrings, hips and larger muscle groups to generate more power and overall speed. Think about it like a race car. The race car gets faster, more agile and decelerates more quickly when more horsepower is added...it becomes more agile and develops better stopping power through upgrades to the vehicles suspension and tires. This is the same concept that pertains to athletes.
Athletes want to maintain an optimal weight with proper body fat content that suits the sport they are playing. Athletes are getting bigger and bigger in turn getting stronger and stronger. Look at a short distance sprinter or an NFL running back...they are made of solid lean muscle.
Building a powerful posterior chain and developing core stability will be the key to becoming a more effective athlete. At Evolve we focus on these things and have had great success developing high level athletes.
The squat, deadlift, reverse hyper extension combined with Kettlebell work creates an athlete that is not only superior when it comes to short term performance, but the conditioning values added by extensive kettlebell training allows them to maintain a high level of performance for an extended period of time, which in turn gives them more and more of an advantage as the game progresses. Evolve training also helps reduce the chance of injury by building strong connective tissue in the joints.
Our Conjugate Method of training also prevents athletes from accommodating to the workout and adapting to movements. When there is no adaptation the athlete continues to get better and better the more they train. So...next time a "trainer" has your youth athlete running and doing ladder drills for an hour straight, think about what REALLY makes an athlete more explosive, agile and conditioned.
